If you've ever had to write an "About Me" page, then you'll have empathy for how hard it is to do! I have a professional side you will see from time to time but to say that is "me" would be very misleading. If I had to describe myself in one word I would say, "Silly" but it wouldn't take long for you to realize I was merely trying to avoid the word, "dork." I am simple. I am a homebody. My all-time favorite jokes end with the phrase, "Get it?!" and I believe that family and good friends are one and the same. My husband and I married in 2005 and we have a beautiful daughter who was born in 2008. That is me in a nutshell.
I vividly remember being in first grade, wait... was it third? (fun fact about me, I do not "vividly" remember anything!) In any case, I was in elementary school. We made a pinhole camera out of an oatmeal container. I was amazed. I asked my mom for a camera and I got my very first Kodak with 110 film. (Fun fact #2: I am old enough to have used film.) This about me thing actually isn't that hard! When I decided to turn my passion into a profession, I photographed everything! Toddlers, high school seniors, maternity, engagement, you name it. When I photographed a newborn baby for the first time, everything changed. I was so in awe. I put a lot more effort and time into my newborn sessions but for some reason, it felt like less work. I just knew this was my specialty and Starla Wise Photography was "born." (Get it?!)
I have taken courses at The Art studio of UC Berkeley, workshops with top newborn photographers in the industry, as well as online classes in both photography and photoshop. I travel to photography product conventions and continue my education in skill and creativity because I believe you should never stop learning.
