FAQ’s

1. When should I make my appointment?

It is never too soon to schedule your session!  Most clients schedule their newborn session while in their second trimester or by 30 weeks.  This insures availability and allows us more time to plan how we will personalize and style your session.  If you happen to come across my site a little closer to your due date please contact me.  There is always a chance of an opening as pre scheduled sessions can move around when babies arrive on a date other than expected!

2. What age do you photograph newborns?   Ideally 5-10 days old

I like to photograph babies from 5 to 10 days old (7 days being my favorite).  My style of photography is the natural newly born sleeping baby.   After only 10 days of life, babies begin to develop strength and alertness that make it difficult to capture the cozy poses that you will see in my portfolio. While this is the preferred age I do photograph newborns up to five weeks. While my goal is still to capture the natural poses consistent with my portfolio, some props and poses are limited with older newborn sessions. Please contact me for full details.

3.  Do you provide props or can I bring my own?

Nearly all props seen in the images in my newborn portfolio are here and available for your session with the exception of a few that may have been brought by clients.  I photograph newborns primarily in their birthday suit and in a neutral style using classic props that I believe reflect the purity of your newborn.  You are welcome to bring  a sentimental or personal item that we can incorporate into your session.  It’s important to discuss any props or items you want to bring before your session so that I can be sure it is safe to use as well as  have time to create how we can use it best in an image.

4.  How many scene changes do you use?  2-4

My goal is to work from start to finish while baby sleeps with minimum disturbance to their slumber. I work with a system so that we use 2-4 different backgrounds (changing texture or color) and a prop of some sort.  If your baby is sensitive or disturbed easily we may limit the props but use additional hats or items to still get a great variety of images. If your baby is a great sleeper you may have to stop me from using every scene I have!   😉

5Can myself or other family members be included in the session?  Yes

It is my primary focus to capture images of your newborn at this early stage in life as well as the intimate images with Mom, Dad, or an older sibling if you desire .  Due to the nature of the session it is important to discuss during the consultation if you would like to be included or add a sibling  so that we can make sure to plan the session accordingly.

6.  How many images will be in my gallery?

Your session is carefully planned to create images that compliment each other so that they display beautifully in your home.  Your gallery will have a minimum of 15 images offering a variety of poses and styles to choose from without being overwhelming.   I edit only the best images from your session and present you with a private on line gallery. On average galleries will have 30 images.

7.  Do you sell Digital Files?  Yes

Digital Files are sold for printing and personal use only.  Copyright is not released. Ownership, alterations, and commercial use are solely retained by Starla Wise Photography.
